The Race For President

You swallow your pride, as you decide that maybe it is better off that America didn't get to know the `real' you. Pretty much you continue spending the money, as Newt makes all the public appearances, and gives all the speeches. In the latest poll, only three percent of the people surveyed actually knew what your first name was, while twenty-four percent said they would vote for you for president. President Clinton still is ahead in the polls with forty percent, Dole trails him with thirty-six percent, but you and Gingrich are rapidly gaining ground. The political world is in a frenzy over `the one guy' and Newt Gingrich.

Two days before the Republican National Convention, you get a phone call. It's Bob Dole, and he's scared. He realizes that with you in the race there is no way for him to win, and he wants to make a deal. Basically, if you drop out of the race, Dole will appoint you as Secretary of Veteran Affairs if he is elected. And even if he loses, he still guarantees you a job at his spacious Kansas ranch. On one side of the coin, your future will be secured, but on the other side, you popularity is gaining so rapidly, so early in the campaign, and you have a realistic shot at becoming president. It won't be an easy decision.
